HISTORY OF CEDAR BAPTIST CHURCH

Cedar Baptist Church started in 1989 with a Bible Study for the senior citizens who resided at 5929 East Capitol Street SE, Washington, DC, which was the East Capitol Senior Citizens Building. The residents began to come to Bible study. They asked Rev. Charles C. Greene if he would start a church service. This would be convenient for them because many of them could not get out to attend church.  From this Bible Study, Cedar Baptist Church evolved and received its Certificate of Incorporation on February 11, 1991.

Pastor Emeritus Charles C. Greene is the founder. We had five members at the start. The number of Directors/Trustees constituting the initial Board of Directors/Trustees was three. We started church services at the Senior Home on February 17, 1991 on Sunday at 12 p.m. We went on a leave of absence in 1995, after the church was informed by government authorities that the space we were using for church services was needed by them.

In May of 2005, Pastor Charles C. Greene became the interim pastor of Unity Baptist Church until as such time they called for a permanent pastor. Following his departure from Unity Baptist Church, a few people asked Pastor Greene if he would restart Cedar Baptist. With much prayer and discussion, we held a meeting and started having Bible Study at It’s God’s Choice Bookstore in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

On June 15, 2006, we had a church meeting to start regular church service. Services were held on every Sunday at 12 p.m. We also elected new directors/trustees and officers and decided to move our services to Good Shepherd Ministries in Capitol Heights, Maryland on February 4, 2007. Our membership increased to 15 people.

As of April 2011, we were holding services at Faith Deliverance Temple in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

On January 1, 2015, Dr. Marcus N. Tillman became the Pastor of Cedar Baptist Church and Rev. Charles C. Greene became Pastor Emeritus.

On June 1, 2015, we started holding services at 2319 Shadyside Avenue, Suitland, MD 20746.

On April 7, 2019, we started holding services in the Conference Room at 8181 Professional Place, Hyattsville, Maryland 20785. With a group of committed members, we believe God will add to the church in His appointed time.

On March 29, 2020, due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, we started holding services by conference call.
