 Marcus N. Tillman, D.Min., Pastor



Dr. Marcus Novelle Tillman was born April 13, 1964 in Washington, DC, the son of Carl M. and the late Rebecca H. Tillman. He was educated in the DC Public School System, graduating from the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1983.

Dr. Tillman accepted the Lord as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 6 years old during a children’s Bible study. While spending time with his grandmother in West Palm Beach, Florida, he joined the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where he was baptized by the Reverend John F. Neal. He became very active in church activities while attending Tabernacle. After the death of his grandmother, he returned to Washington, DC, joining the Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Dr. Henry C. Gregory, III. There he became active on the Usher Board and other ministries in the church.

Dr. Tillman received a calling to preach the gospel at the age of 13. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the Washington Bible College to study and learn more about God’s Will and Way. It was at Washington Bible College where he met Rev. Christopher L. Simmons, who introduced him to the Jericho Baptist Church. Under the pastoral leadership of the Rev. Joel Nelson, Dr. Tillman joined Jericho and later was licensed and ordained to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dr. Tillman is actively involved in numerous ministries spreading the gospel. He is involved in community services where he has received several awards. Dr. Tillman received an Associate of Arts Degree and Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from the Carolina University of Theology in Belmont, North Carolina, and Master of Theology from the Andersonville Baptist Seminary in Camilla, Georgia. He received a Doctorate of Ministry in Leadership from Faith Christian University and Schools in Temple Hills, Maryland.

 Dr. Tillman served as Pastor of the Anacostia Bible Church in Washington, DC and as Interim Pastor at the Kettering Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland and First Baptist Church of Mount Rainier, Mount Rainier, Maryland

As January 1, 2015, Dr. Tillman has become the Pastor of Cedar Baptist Church. Dr. Tillman is married to the former Blonda Gardner, and they are the parents of three grown children Brian, Vashti and Rebecca. and two grandchildren

Pastor Charles C. Greene (Founder)

Pastor Emeritus and organizer, Charles C. Greene, is a native Washingtonian where he attended DC Public Schools. Later, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a professional musician (drummer) for many years. He also was in the transportation business from 1978 to 1999. He then entered into sales and retired in 2004.

He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in his life in the early 70s and united with If My People Baptist Church. There he was the Chairman of the Deacon Board, and later was licensed to preach the gospel. On November 20, 1978, he was ordained at If My People Baptist Church where he served as Assistant to the Pastor. Pastor Greene studied at Maple Springs Bible College, Washington Bible College, and Washington Saturday College (located on the campus of Howard University). He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Andersonville Baptist Seminary (Nation’s Capitol Satellite). God has blessed him with pastors and churches that he is associated with such as New Beginning Christian Fellowship (Pastor Eugene & Jane Myles), New Grove Baptist (Pastor Abner Carey), and Good Shepherd Ministries (Pastor Phillip Corum).

He encourages officers and church members to attend Sunday School, Bible Study, Prayer services and regular Worship services. To him it is important that “No one at Cedar is ignorant of God’s Word.” Rev. Greene is a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  His motto is “To know God is to know His Word.”
